I'm looking at an '03 F-250 4x4 with 221k on the odo. The catch is it's a 5.4L.
At 221k, I'm thinking any spark plug issues would've happened by now, right? And are there any other issues I should be aware of? He's asking $9k, what's a decent price.
Is he the original owner? How immaculate is this truck? Maintenance history? I would be pretty concerned about the top end of that motor, as well as the transmission falling out of it in the next 20k miles.
There's a whole lot of other stuff on that truck that's had plenty of time to get worn out by now, 14 model years old, and near quarter million miles... Brakes, steering, suspension, electrical/charging systems, accessories.... That's not something to take lightly. Was this thing a hangar queen, a landscapers truck, a plow truck, used to haul RV's coast to coast, or driven by a little old lady to church on sundays?
A gas 5.4 with that many miles for 9k is a lot of money. I understand prices vary from location and quality of the vehicle, but I only paid 5,500 for my 1999 V10 CCSB 4x4 and it was in good shape with 190,000 miles on it. Just my opinion, find something else.
It was a fleet truck. It looks brand new, inside and out except the inside of the bed...and really who cares about that? I haven't had a chance to drive it, but I started it up and ran it until it warmed up, never so much as a tick.
Modular motors can and will run for a long time but that is too much money no matter what cab it has. With that many miles though don't be surprised if you have to do ball joints replace the unit bearings along with tie rod ends track bar bushings and if the trans hasn't been rebuilt or replaced again don't be surprised. Also look at the exhaust manifold studs if any of them are broken that is something else that will need to be addressed. I wouldn't not buy it but not for 9k

I agree with this. I paid just over 5k for my 1999 CCSB V10 with 126k miles. 9k for a 220k truck is a lot of coin especially for a fleet truck that was worked hard for every one of those miles.
2003 for the 5.4 shouldn't have any issues with the plugs though. If you are serious about it I would definitely get it checked out and ask for the service history. If the front end is original that will be a $1k hit alone.
