Secured storage ideas?

The "no glove box" thing is killing me... There's not even a place in the van to keep items "out of site, out of mind". Has anyone come up with a way to have discreet or secured storage for smaller items that may need to be left in the vehicle?

I searched the forum and found visor trays and custom consoles, neither of which really fits my needs. Any creative undet seat or under dash solutions that have been done? Or something else?

Filing cabinet between the seats is good for papers- just turn it sideways so the papers are facing toward you: not front/back.

Door pockets do a great job of hiding stuff from eyes of car thieves, but they are difficult access while driving.

The doghouse compartment under the cup holders is very good also, but keep something like a towel or T shirt in there to cover items if highly valuable.

I have my Garmin permanently mounted on the visor- simply flip visor upward after parking and it's basically undetectable.

What is it you're trying to conceal?

Also a half size plastic file box fits very nicely behind the driver seat.

And a plastic Dewalt hard case goes perfectly under the passenger seat.

That's a great idea, I think I even have an empty one in the garage!

I wasn't sure on forum rules (and not wanting to start a different debate as I could find no other references in past posts and didn't want my post nuked), but I'm looking to secure a weapon as well as other more valuable items. Easy access from the drivers seat would be ideal.

I am considering something like this under the seat, but not sure it will work for the application and available space. I was hoping someone smarter than me had already tackled this dilemma. :-)

I can definitely respect keeping a gun in the van… I spend 15-20 hours per week in mine, so that ups the ante for my chances of having a need…

However, with something like a gun, I would want it to be easily accessible , but I would not leave it alone in the van out of my sight…

I wonder how far ahead of the target one must aim when shooting out of a moving vehicle?
😂

Hmmm... Something like that could possibly work. Thanks for the ideas!

Agreed on all counts! There are some places that my CCP will not allow carry or is not valid (e.g. Courthouse or out of state), so I don't have a choice but to leave it in the car.

The ultimate or best theft deterrent is keep your stuff OUT OF VIEW. There is a ton of room under the front seats. Were I to keep anything like a gun unattended inside the van I'd have a bio-metric gun safe or something similar.

The right version of those can be attached to the van making taking just grabbing those too long which is another great theft deterrent. Along with a good loud anti-intrusion alarm that's about as good as you'll find. It would be very easy to hide.

Any case or whatever that's visible is a huge invitation to the smash and grab crowd, the more experienced criminals being quite adept at easy removal of cheap plastic cases or anything not firmly attached to the van in some way. If a theft takes longer than 4-5 seconds they tend to run away.
