I have had pioneer, kenwood, morel, infinity and memphis speakers and by far my favorite are memphis.
I have the Ford component speaker set with a circular mid range and seperate tweeter that is mounted in the door. The crossover fits perfectly right below the arm pad on the door. Unamplified the speakers sound outstanding both at high volume and low volume with a reasonable amount of mid range and warmer highs. Maybe eventually I will amplify them but I don't want to run the speaker wire for that. I only have the two front speakers replaced as well.
Did you need any special type of wire harness adapters to use the after market speakers like Crutchfield is indicating i will need?
I cut the wires off at the speaker and soldered mine. But I'm a soldering genius....Butt splices and a GOOD crimping tool works too. If you're sure your splices are tight, you be good to go.
If you're confident in your handi-work, You never look back. (At least for some things....)I learn quickly from my bone head mistakes and never forget......
I used some Kicker 6x8's in the front doors from Crutchfield for my truck. They came with a adapter which was incorrect, Crutchfield got me the replacement style to match my truck right away though. I still need to replace the rear speakers but the fronts alone with factory CD/Tape head unit were a great improvement over the paper speakers.
Coop, which is the correct adapter for the E99? I am guessing the grey one?
Mine originally came with the black but the truck took the gray. Wierd thing is mine isn't a E99 by date but may be on other items. You might want to pull a panel and take a look prior to ordering.

I think they were around $70 for the ones I have. Fathers Day gift.

I used to use those harnesses since the Ford connectors are female pins on the harness side but I can get weatherpack connectors much cheaper. Most aftermarket speakers come with short harnesses that connect to their spade style terminals already crimped on, you just cut the factory connector off and use heat shrink connectors or weather pack terminals.
I use weatherpack terminals since I have the crimping tool so it I can still disconnect and connect like factory but it is a sealed connection.
Let me know if you want pics of the setup I used to see!

Yes please, I wish I could make factory type connections
Also thanks Coop, you may have just saved me a headache and the incorrect parts purchase! I have the black round connectors not the rectangular grey ones like crutfield's site was stating that fit my truck...
