I just bought a Black '03 Ranger Edge Supercab last week and today I ordered a bed liner as well. The liner will be in tommorow, and I was just wondering if there is anything I should do other than clean the box before putting it in. I haven't waxed the truck yet, so should I... or just leave it?
PS are they hard to install? I'll probably just do it in the lot to save the install charges.
Well no matter what you do the bed, the liner will still rub, and leave wear marks. and over time it will trap water under neath, and begin to rust. Oh, and don't forget, some rattle if not installed just right.
As for installing it, it depends on is its over the rail, or under.
I had a under the rail, and it was a task to get it out and in. Had to bend it a little, in order to get it slide under the rail into place.
As for the over rail, I'm not sure with those, I'm assuming its going to be easy. I'm sure someone here will know... -Mike
I wouldn't clean it. I just got my new '03 the other day, and I talked them into paying half for a bedliner. I go get it in the morning. These trucks have unlimited mileage corrosion warranty, so don't worry about your truck rusting...it won't. And if it does Ford will cover it.
Installed a beliner in 1985 on my then new Ford F150. The place I brought the bedliner from told me to put a coat of wax on the bottom of and sides of the truck but not to buff it off. In addition the thin foam that was wrapping the liner was placed in the bottom of the be before the liner was installed. When I sold the truck to a friend in 1994 we took the bedliner out and the inside of the bed stilled had the wax and te foam in the bottom with no wear marks.
I remeber the gentleman that installed the liner telling me that the foam would reduce the scraping noise and that the wax tht was left in the truck would protect the bed from the elements. The bedliner was never removed from the truck until it was sold in 1994.
I have a 97' with an Allstate over the side liner. The liner has worn the paint off down to bare metal in a couple of spots. The two spots I remember are on top of the wheel well.
While I prefer the spray-on liner, if I was putting in a drop-in, I would go to home depot, get some of the foam sheeting they use with the Prego type flooring (it is fairly cheap) and put it between the bed and the drop-in. Good luck!

I really had no major problems with my under the rail liner in 94 ranger. when I bought it new the dealer installed it and I did nothing for the first 3 years. The problem I had with the liner is it faded. So I removed it and spray painted it. While it was out, I would put 2 coats of wax in the bed. I don't know if it was necessary, but it made me feel better. I never had any problems with rust.
