Instant fuel consumption?

Instant fuel consumption?
While messing about with the truck at the weekend, I noticed that on the overhead display there is a bit that says "inst", only noticed as it was sunny & I could see all the different characters on the display. So the question is, can this be used? Or is it just that the display screen is also used on another vehicle that has "fuel inst".

Some models do have this. My infinity from DP can read it from the PCM for me as I don't have the nicer model but I have found it isn't really accurate. Especially if you're running tunes.
The most accurate mine has been was during a stock tune and even then it told me I was getting 3-5 MPG better than I actually was.
