Does anyone know under what conditions the fuel consumption is calculated and over what period the "average" reading is taken? Mine has displayed the same value for a few days now. I thought the average would be recalculated periodically if not frequently so I can see the effects of lead-footing it versus "kitty"-footing it.
When you gas up you need to reset the fuel consumption. Simply hold in the button until it resets. This way you can see what MPG is on your current fillup.
It is constantly calculating, Ranger Lance mentioned how you can reset it. You can reset it while you are driving if you want to see how speed and driving style can affect fuel mileage in real time. It's fun to play with but calculating mileage based off actual litres filled and kms travelled on a tank is definitely the only accurate way.
It is a rolling average of the last 500 miles driven. That seems to me to be close to the criusing range of a 26 gallon tank. One of these days I plan to reset the calculator when I fill up and do my own manual calculation the next time I fill up to see how close they compare (I just bought the truck.) Ford recommends that if you do it manually you use a 3-4 fill up range. That's more than the calculator uses but it does not have to deal with air bubbles in the tank and differences in how much gas you pump.
Instant MPG is a great teacher about how to accelerate and drive down the road.
Well it moved tons.....lol.....still gets the same fuel consumption as the B3000/Ranger so I'm not at all disappointed. On the highway it gets 22 mpg at 65 mph...not bad. The overall average seems to be 16 mpg, based on 60% city and 40% highway with some spirited driving here and there.
