Whirring noise coming from under truck

Sounds like that would cause some horrible grinding squeaking noise Happy he found it. Just not what I had in mind when thinking of a whirring noise. I worked as a both a dealer technician and at a private shop for almost 10 years when I was younger. It was often very difficult to get good descriptions of noises. I recall one customer recorded the noise and played it back for us to hear.

The noise is no longer there. It looks like there is some sort of lining there. I did not take it apart. The brake holds real well. Years and years ago I worked at a lumber yard and those types of parking brakes never held on the trucks we delivered lumber with. Now they were bigger trucks and hauled heavy loads but I am impressed with the holing power of this brake on my truck.

It was worn so that the part of the lining you could see bulging out to the rear looked thick. If I hadn't taken it off the tranny, I would never have known it was worn out.
But, now that it's like new, even with all the torque this little 226 has, I can't move the truck if the brake is engaged.

Mine worked well too. And I thought it was in good condition until I took it apart. The reason it worked so well was that the worn out lining was allowing the rivets to dig into the drum. Of course, that's not noticeable while driving because the brake is released.

The above post from Joe (Harrier) has links to both our experiences replacing this brake lining. His will be more like yours, I think. But we both referenced the instructions detailed in Earl's World on this subject. http://www.clubfte.com/users/earl/Page11.html
And I found the materials needed at McMaster-Carr.
