So went to auto parts store, tried to get a wix fuel filter, 33217, but it does not come with the round bowl that goes on the bottom. They dont show a part number for the bowl. Google does not find the round bowl either.
It came with a napa filter, similar to the wix 33417 that has the drain built in to the bottom of the filter. A few folks alone suggest that the one with the reusable bowl is better, but that does not help if I cant find a place to buy the round bowl to start with.
Is the 33417 actually the correct for my 91 IDI Banks Square Turbo? Or should I continue looking for the round bowl?
The round bowl is a common air intrusion source. The filter without it is an upgrade. There are two different ones, one has the water drain only and the other has a spot to attach your water in fuel sensor. Most peopl run the cheaper one with just the water drain, me included. I think the 217 is the one I am talking about.
Ahh. Thanks, will stick with the one with the valve on the bottom. You mentioned water in fuel sensor, assume that turns the dash light on, I dont see a wire there for that, should there be one on my year truck or is the sensor some where else on my year?
I you don't have the fuel bowl, or the sensor for the water in fuel light, you'll have to get the filter that doesn't include it.
The one I use is Wix 33617, it has a spot for the WIF sensor, but you have to swap it from either the fuel bowl or the existing filter. The sensor just unscrews from the bottom of the filter, and the new filter should include a replacement o-ring for it.
The wire should be there, but might be tucked off to the side somewhere.
