AOD GURUS

I recently installe a new torque converter in my AOD. In park at idle there is a whine from the transmission. if you put it in gear it goes away. If you move the tv rod the sound changes. What could it be?

I have a small buzz/whine in park and when I have it way down in first, but it works itself out after a couple seconds. Always been like that, no idea what it is. I have 44k on this rebuild, 86k total miles on the truck.

I'd be VERY careful adding new fluid... learned my 1,280.66$ lesson from fluid change.

dead cold the whine is not there, after about 2-3 minutes the whine comes back, and gets louder the longer it runs only in park and neutral.

last july I changed the filter and pan fluid only.
This time I did not change the filter (figured the old one was still good), but added a new converter and pan with drain plug.

any chance the new fluid and lubeguard clogged the old filter?

Droped the pan, found this. its crusted and black when you scrape it its powdery. majority of it was burnt to the pan...what could cause this

Is it metallic or more like fiction material? Looks like clutches coming apart but hard to tell.

its not metalic and its not gritty like or grey like clutch material would be on a normal change. scraping it its almost powedery, and rolls up like dry rtv sealant. It seems like rubber floating to the bottom of the pan and burning. I just cut open the old filter and its dang near clean, just found what looks like small things of black rubbery rtv like 5-10 specs.

whats the likleyhood of the transmission dipstick pulling in dirt? when the pan was pulled off it looked like it had a few drops of engine oil with the cruddy stuff. The transmission is still oily on the outside because of the old motor and the pressure washer had trouble cutting through it. Im thinking when I removed the engine the o-ring on the tube may have gotten messed up and with it moving around ate it up. When it rained with the hood off it pooled at the tube and leaked or got sucked in and the water just burnt off. Under a microscope the crud in the pan looks exactly like the oil next to the dipstick tube. the pieces of rubber may be the o-ring bits
