I have had such problems with my '95 Explorer....the transmission, the speedometer jumping, the OD light flashing and not going off............so.............I changed the VSS and Rear Antilock sensor...unhooked the battery to reset the codes and nothing is working! HELP PLEASE!
I am having the same problem with my explorer. I have also replaced the VSS and Rear Antilock Sensor to no avail. I just had someone suggest pulling the cable out and cleaning or replacing. On my 93 the speedometer varies about 5 mph and the cruise control surges.
I could not get the cable out from the bottom end. I will have to take the dash apart for that. So instead I think I will unplug the speedometer cable and see if the helps the problem with the cruise. If it solves the problem then it is either cable or speedometer head. If it does not, then it is one of the gears or in the transfer case (unless the new VSS is bad). Is there anything wrong with my logic?
I have a needle but my VSS does not have a cable hook to it...where else would the cable be? Where should I be looking?
Sorry for all the questions.......
The VSS goes in to the top rear of my transfer case. There is also a sensor for the ABS in the differential. The 95's may be different. I should qualify that I am not really an expert, I just know what I have learned in my quest for a fix.
