Alright so I'm having a problem with my 1997 f250 7.3 2wd auto (problems just keep coming). I've recently noticed that when I get to above 40 mph, if my steering wheel is straight, I hear a loud kind of grinding or humming sound coming from my left driver side front. If I am going about 65 mph, it gets even louder and if I crank the steering wheel to the left, that's when it really gets noisy but as soon as I crank it to the right, the problems gone. When I do hear the hummin sound, I can feel it in the steering wheel. I have replaced al of the tires and it didn't help. Also, the truck slightly pulls me to the right.
Figured it was, so i heard the wheel bearing that is bad is the one opposite of where the noise is coming from, is that true? So if my left wheel is making noise, does that mean my right wheel bearing is bad?
Where you hear it coming from, vs. which side, is kind of a crap-shoot. But if it's pulling to the right, it's probably the right side, since the shot bearing is probably putting a drag on the right front wheel.
And by the way, I just did front wheel bearings on a '96 F250 2wd night before last, and I had to buy bearings for an F350. Don't know why, but the ones they pulled for a 250 were way too small. Maybe because it is a powerstroke.
