Hey guys. When my lights are off both my turn signal works fine but when I pull my light switch out my left turn signal stops flashing and the green arrow in the dash stays on solid. Right turn signal works fine with the lights on. I've heard of other 70s Fords do this also. And ideas if what it is? Thought it might be a ground problem buts since my right turn signal light works fine I didn't know. Any ideas?
Yep missing, loose, or corroded ground cables can do just that. Possibly short in bulb/socket. Headlights are hogging the current and drawing it wherever they can.
YouTube and other sites have some super good tutorials on voltage drop testing, probably Eric the "Car Guy" has one iirc. This is a perennial problem with vintage iron if not actively addressed. Restored trucks can have similar problems after a visit to the paint booth.
Check the bulbs first. Sometimes when they burn out the filament will weld itself to the other one causing weird issues. Another thing this will cause is the front TS coming on when you hit the brakes.
Make sure they are the correct bulbs. If they are not the right wattage sometimes the flashers will not operate properly.
Good call, could be a couple other things bad bulb of course. But outside the obvious as a rule always check grounds first, especially on 40 year old iron.
