installing a new firewall, i see the 3 tabs that held the old firewall in, how do i attach the new firewall? do i use existing tabs? i see the cap pops off, would i bend up the prongs the cap attaches to install firewall and bend back down pop cap back on? also should there a gasket between the cab side steering column plate and the firewall?

What part are you calling the firewall...which is steel and welded to the cab?
my bad, i meant the firewall insulator, i see there are some pins you can by from NPD, do i just snip off the old pins? i only see 3 pins on my trucks firewall, is that the correct amount? and still wondering if there is to be a gasket between the inner steering column plate and the firewall(metal body)

There are pins that push through to hold the insulator. You can cut the old ones off, you can't reuse them anyway. New ones are plastic or metal. I think there are 4 or 5.
Yes there is a rubber seal on the column plate. NPD, or DC should have all these parts.

thanks, i know there is a rubber boot on the outside of the firewall, just wasn't sure if there is a gasket or rubber between the inside firewall plate and the firewall

That rubber is one piece. It goes in from the inside and protrudes through the firewall. I opted for the late 70's plate and seal with my 4 speed column. It eliminates the firewall bracket on the outside.
