Bed Liner fun
The F-350 my son & I are working on is painted entirely in black bed liner. Approximately 4 years ago the prior owner did a good job of taping everything off and painting the whole thing. The only thing he didn't do a GREAT job with is behind the cab in front of the bed down low.
That said, the truck has a nice stealth tech look to it. The problem is over those 4 years there are a lot of dings, scratches, scrapes etc.
I'm told he used the $6 spray can from Walmart of the Rust-oleum brand bed liner. Used about 20 cans or so and covered the whole truck.
So I picked up a can and tried it out in the bed, where of course the scratching and scraping is the worst. It's really not matching at all.
I'll post a picture tomorrow with daylight. I used most of 1 can in about a 5' area at the back of the bed. It's not the color I am concerned about - it's the lack of texture in the liner. My single can doesn't seem to be doing the same sand-paper look the truck has everywhere else.
You can see the color difference clearly - fresh liner is MUCH darker in the bed than anywhere else on the truck. That makes perfect sense.
However, what it appears to be missing is the sandpaper grit texture. What texture IS there is coming from the metal that was there, not the liner liquid itself.

I also used the interior of the bed to determine how much area one can could cover.
I'm going to pick up one of the "pro" bed liner cans at Walmart and see if that has the texture to match the rest of the truck AND test how much area it covers by comparison. The "pro" version is 2-2.5x as much.
I'm not worried about the bed too much. It's not worth $160 in bed liner materials to do it right. Not yet anyway. More than anything I just want to get the bare metal covered where it needs it.
