When I did an efuel conversion on my last 97 the Ipr pigtail had a broken clip and every once in awhile would get loose and pop off and sputter and then die went on for awhile untill truck died while driving and wouldn't start, plugged it back in and got home. Replaced the pigtail and everything was fine. See if the pigtail on the Ipr is loose
I'm still learning about these engines so I'm no expert, however I did read a lot about what fordpride said when I was having issues with mine starting. If there is a chip in there, that could be causing the issue.
What happens is that the chip that's plugged in the computer can be loose. Bumps will usually wiggle it around enough to cause problems, but it doesn't specifically have to be big bumps that will cause the issue.
If you haven't checked yet, I'd look to see if a chip is in there, and then pull it and see how it runs. I don't know anything about chipping though so I don't know if you pull it and you're all good to go or if something else needs to happen as well, but apparently it's quite a simple process of installing and removing a chip.
