1994.5 f250 xl. Truck intermitently stalls while driving and at idle. Usually turns right over and runs after. Sometimes takes 3 or 4 times to turn over but not often. If it stalls while im moving it fires up on its own after a few seconds. It also "hiccups" frequently while idling. Some days the truck runs fine. Some days i think i wont make it home from work. Thought it was a fuel issue so i changed the fuel filter and cleaned the fpr screen. Problem continued. Any suggestions to what the problem might be?

 

Do you get any check engine lights when this happens? I'd venture a guess that the CPS (cam position sensor) is going out. Use a Ford or IH part only if you replace it. Also check to see if the tin nut is on the fuel pressure regulator.

 

The check engine light has come on a 2 or 3 times while driving when it stalled. Usually if i was pushing higher rpms or i was doing 50 or so up a hill when it would stall/sputter

 

There will be a code stored then. Do you have a code reader, or know someone that has one? Most parts house code readers will not communicate with the powerstroke ECM. Without the code, it is just a guess as to what is going on.
