loose cowl

Hey guys, im still reeling from all the damage from the paint and body shop so I have to come to yall for some body knowledge.

my cowl at the back near the windshield is loose and rattling . there has got to be some screws missing or loose but I don't even know where they would be. under the fender? under the windshield trim? can yall steer me in the right direction?

thanks!

I would have to check my 81 but I think there are screws in the slots back toward the glass. Want to say 4 or 5 of them but they are in the slots so hard to see.
Because they are in the slots and can be seen the heads should be body color.
Again I plan to get out to the garage, no work today, so will look.

In the rear corners, there are no fasteners. There are tabs you can adjust (bend) to make it tight to the windshield trim and flush with the tops of the fenders.

Just happen to have an 86 cowl handy, note some of the tabs are not in the correct position
Some pic's if they work out.
4 tabs inside the slots, also foam/rubber seal or vibration damper strips. The black lines on the cowl
Cheers Steve

cool thanks guys.

the cowl seems to be tight everywhere except those corners. I can push it down about 1/4 inch. and that's what I have to do to make it level with the fenders. it seems like bending a tab to make it tight would make it stay in the "up" position. Am I understanding this correctly? the windshield trim is kinda loose too, is it supposed to keep that cowl pushed down? I think the body shop jacked up my trim too. another 3-400 from lmc. this is turning out to be the most expensive paint job in history.

thanks a ton for yalls help

I don't think the molding is to touch the cowl other wise with vibration it would rub the paint off the cowl and then rust.

It is hard to see in the first picture but the lower right corner you can just make out the tab the other Dave talks about.
I can get a picture of it if you want as I have 2 cowls off the trucks.

As for the molding being lose wonder if they used the right clips that hold it to the truck? I have seen on my trucks the 2 lower corner clips are long ones I have never see before on cars or trucks before.
I think LMC sells all the clips in a kit as I will also need them as I need to reseal the front glass and some of the clips on my truck are broken or missing.
