New at this and can't find the answer, please kindly help.
I have a 2002 F250SD with 232000 miles. Going home motor died. Removed motor, pulled the head and found a broken valve spring on the passenger side. Valve fused into the head. Major damage was substantial crack in the block.
My question I can't seem to find the answer on is "why" can't I use a 99, 00 or 01 V10 6.8L as a swap? All I've been told by others, is won't work, but I never get a response on how come?
I am not sure about the Fords. However, if swapping an engine from different years, even the same year, make sure the wiring harness and components match up. Otherwise you may find that you can't start the engine. One of my dads stories he told us. He was finally able to get it to run after hooking up wiring/components that originally belonged to that engine...
The 2000 and earlier V-10s had 2V non-PI heads, and were a bit down on power. 275 HP at 400 lb/ft. You probably don't want those, but it would work if it is all you could get.
2001-2004 have 2V PI heads (Power Improved). 310 HP at 425 lb/ft. Anything from that period should work, but you may need to use the accessory drive, intake and exhaust manifolds, and wiring harness from your old engine.
The 2005 Excursion is a bit of an oddity. 2V heads, but rumor has it there is no knock sensor. Avoid that one.
