So I currently have one gas tank in my truck. I however have this lever to select I assume between three different tanks. I don't know where I would mount the other two though. One is under the drivers side. On the inside of the frame and the exhaust would take out the chance of that on the passenger side here is a pic of the lever and hoses
I had the same valve in my truck. There was the original "aft axle" tank, then an auxiliary tank mounted where the factory aux tank was mounted only outside rather than inside the frame, and the third tank mounted on the right side, opposite the front left tank. The bad thing about my installation was both of the auxiliary tanks were mounted outside of the frame, between the frame and sheetmetal, not, in my opinion, the safest place to mount an additional 40 gallons of fuel, so I removed them.
Yeah, your install is a little different than mine was. Your tank is inside the frame, under the cab. Both of my auxiliary tanks were outside the frame, under the bed. They were suspended by two long through bolts and basically "hung" from the bottom of the bed. Like I said, not the safest way to carry extra fuel.
They were called saddle tanks and they were a common aftermarket addition for trucks of that era, what with the rather paltry 19 gallon offering. They were particularly popular a little earlier, when the behind the seat tank was all you got... But yes, not something that remained popular, saddle tanks haven't lived up to 21st century safety expectations, and have fallen out of favor.
