From what I've gathered, you don't use the tab on the timing cover for reference like you would on an earlier truck. I don't see any marks on the pulley of my truck.
Anyone know what I'm supposed to look for? Would like to advance my timing and set it between 12-14 deg. BTDC.
There should be a slot, or 2 slots close together on the pulley. You use the tab with the numbers on it for reference and to line up the mark on the pulley for the desired setting.
Note: the numbers to your left are BTDC. Don't forget to remove the spout connector.
Got the new distributor in and set the timing. In my case, there were no slots on the crank pulley. What I did find on my crank pulley was timing marks that read 0-10 and skipped to 26 deg. BTDC. and there is a pointer on the passenger side which the mark is supposed to line up with.
Cleaned the pulley and put some Wite-Out just past the 10 deg. mark. After the truck warmed up I checked the timing and to my surpise the timing was already at 10 deg. BTDC! So I didn't really have to make any adjustments since I marked exactly how the old distributor went in and put the new one exactly the same way.
Hope this helps someone else that has a '95-6 with the same configuration as my truck.
