What am I getting into???
Will F-SuperDuty axles fit this thing? or is this a beast that I dont want to try and tackle?
An axle change to later axles can be done, but you will be on your own for figuring out what fits, fitting it, and dealing with driveshafts etc.
One thing about the later axles would be the use of lower profile tires on most of them. 19.5s, vs. the 20" high profile tube type tires on it. You might have 4" or better difference in diameter.
"Affordable" depends on what you can afford. Tires in the existing size are probably $200 a copy plus tubes and flaps, and if they are locking ring wheels, you will need to find someone who will work on them.
If you change axles you will answer the brake issue. For the oem brakes, shoes and internal parts can be had, but there are no new drums available.
