Anyone have a clue if i could fit 52" tires under an 83?? If so, how much lift would that require.... I can't begin to figure it out.... If it's at all possible i'd love to do it... Thanks for any input..
im no expert on lifts but i do know a few things. 1, you're gonna have to have a massive 4 link setup, and prolly gonna have to drop the transfer case... 2. and those stock axle aint gonna hold up them tires. if you wanna do it right and not cheap out. go with a rockwell 2 1/2 ton axle. the old deuce and a half truck axles. they can hold up to the weight of those tires. you gonna use this as a show truck? or what?
Ya think dana 60s will run these tires?? Thats acutally what i have.. If i can't use them then 52's are out... I'm expecting alot of fabrication.. Not a show truck.. Just came across these tires and thought they would be awesome on my truck.... I would imagine you don't come across those 2.5 ton axles very easy huh??
they arent that hard ot find. ads in all 4 wheel drive mags. they run about $900-1500 a peice. but last forever, and made to your specs. dana 60's? i wouldnt go over a 38. and thats pushing it. id personally go wiht a built 9 inch in the rear, and a modified 9 inch up front. they are more capable of holding up a bigger tire, with less chance of snapping.
You can go a lot bigger than 38's with Dana 60s, but not to 52". Although it really depends on how you're going to drive it. If you're going offroad with it in the mud, doing jumps, rock crawling, etc. then you'll break a D60 within about two minutes with those tires. If it's an asphalt monster, then you'll be ok.
try a search for chuckstrucks. He does 2 1/2 ton and larger axle swaps and runs huge tires. He also has a Florida mud pit to test stuff in. He did a school bus with 5 ton axles and 66" terra flex tires pretty cool for a school bus.
Thanks for all the info guys... I'm gonna try to diggin' up a set of 2.5 ton axles and see what i can make.... I do want this for off road... I have a pavement pounder... My wifes car... lol
