Replacing hydraulic clutch

I'm in the process of replacing the hydraulic master/slave clutch assy on my 99 F250 SD (Diesel) and I'm hung-up at removing the rod/piston assy from the the fire wall. I've got the rod off the pedal but how do you get the piston (this may not be the correct description) removed from the fire wall?

I've replaced many of these, but it was years ago when I was a tech at a ford dealer.

If I remember correctly, once the rod is off the pedal, you grab the assembly from under the hood and turn it to the left (like you are unscrewing it) and it should pop loose after you turn it.

I also remember a metal clip that I would use a wire snip to cut and remove but I can't remember exactly where that was in the system. (Sorry, it was almost 15 years ago).

Sorry for the vague information, but let me know if it helped, and also what the correct procedure was once you get it replaced. (to refresh my memory)

Ok, just finished this up. I'm sure there are better way's to do this then how I got it done, but in order for me to remove that stainless push rod that's connected from the clutch pedal to the master cylinder, I took a small air grinder and cut it off. Then, as mentioned above, I simply twisted the master cylinder to the right and it popped right out of the fire wall.

After removing that push rod, I can see where there are two metal clips that hold that rod in place, they are "one way" keeper clips so it would take something that would fit around the rod that you could push down inside there to depress those keeper clips and remove the rod.

Hopefully next time I do this, someone will respond with the RIGHT way to get this done and when I do a search on here to figure out how to remove this thing, I'll find my own thread.

That is the "right" way to do it. Using a wire snip is easier than a grinder though.
