The push rod for my 94 F150 failed the other day leaving me stranded, who was the idiot that designed a previously all metal part to be half plastic.....on the end that takes all the force.....WTF! So after searching in depth for another push rod I found that the push rod isn't available separately and all but one I found are still half plastic. I know it's not considered a replaceable part because the rod snaps into a couple plastic clips and "supposedly" can't be removed...not so for the Ford master tech., make a sleeve to slide over the end of the pushrod that goes into the master and it pushes the fingers back and out the rod comes, take your new rod and snap it in and good to go!!! A company called Perfection Clutch makes a master that comes with an all metal pushrod.......outstanding!!! I called the company and Dorman to ask about making the pushrods available and the answer is it's not replaceable........that's BS....how about some American ingenuity!!! I hope this helps as I searched to see if a metal part was available and how to replace it.......slide the clips back just like a fuel filter!
A couple months back I let a friend borrow the truck to run a couple errands. 2 hours later I got a call that the "clutch had fallen out" it was only the pushrod and he over dramatized it, but I was late for work and had to other options so I had to drive it 10 miles force shifting into 3rd and then staying in third until finally stopping (what a nightmare)...it would have been so much easier to just replace the pin, but in the end I suppose it didn't hurt anything to replace the entire Master Cylinder
Hey Guys I am new to this so I am in need of some help. I have a 1989 F250 with a 7.3 L engin. How do you go about changing the Master Cylinder push rod as I can't seem to find it , Lost manual so any help would be very helpful
