Hey there, I bought an old 73 f100 with a 390 , its 2wd has a automatic c6 and a 2bbl motorcraft 2100 d awhile back as my first auto project. Just got down overhauling the engine and rebuilding the carb, but I have run into one problem. I have lost my kickdown linkage which was a basic spring and also my ******* didn't write down where the spring hooks onto from the kickdown.
I've been told it's suppose to hook onto the pump lever but I wasn't to sure. I've looked through photos on Google but I'm not seeing anything to clear on this subject. Also will a basic spring do the job or is there a better option available out there?
I appreciate any help you guys can offer. Thanks.
Here's a pic of the current setup. I bought a spring from ace hardware but it was to weak, that's what your seeing hooked up to the kickdown in the pic.
Thanks for the diagram! I can't tell you how difficult it has been to find one that matches up to my 73....but I'm still wondering how the kickdown bar is hooked up to the throttle....is it that piece marked gg 240?
I didnt even think the kickdown nessicarily hooked up to the throttle. It seems like a spring is suppose to hold it in place so when you push down on the gas the throttle slowly pushes the kickdown up.

.but I'm still wondering how the kickdown rod is hooked up to the throttle....is it that piece marked 380340-S? Disregard the number in parenthesis as it's the standard parts bin locator number.
Also where did you find that diagram?*

OK, so I see that but what holds the kickdown up a bit so I'm able to shift when in drive? I'm positive it's a spring(linkage) but I'm not sure if it's a specific kind and where it's suppose to hook into besides the hole on the end of the kickdown bar....
Correctly adjusted, the kickdown is just sorta there most of the time - the lever at the transmission only acts as a kickdown when it is moved all the way through its arc. Ideally you adjust the kickdown so that under normal operation the KD moves with the throttle, but does not cause the trannie to kick down a gear until you hit wide open throttle or thereabouts. Easiest way to adjust is to move the lever on the transmission to full travel, then set the KD lever to hit that point at WOT.

Thank you very much for the info by the way...
WHOA! You're looking at the wrong picture.
The 380340-S32 clip is shown in the lower picture for 460. You want to look at the upper picture: 1973 302/360/390.

So setting the kickdown lever on the tranny to WOT would allow me to bring the KD bar closer to the point of contact on the throttle without using a spring to hold KD bar in place? If so that sounds a lot easier lol. I've probably spent $15 on springs so far trying to find a perfect fit to no avail...
