Hello all, I would like to share some bits on my 1979 F-100 Custom's engine rebuild. A little over a month ago my dad and I decided to rebuild my trucks engine. She had some bad lifters. Cause for an entire rebuild? No but why not? Haha anywho during the breakdown there were pieces of piston skirting in the oil pan. No clue how long she was running like this. So probably a good thing we did the rebuild. My dad did the mechanical work himself because I don't have the knowledge to do it myself yet. Our work schedules don't match very often and we didn't want the truck sitting for a long time so he did that while I did the cosmetic work. Now I'll start posting pictures. Here's some of the piston pieces in the oil pan. [IMG][/IMG] Here's a shot of the engine bay without the engine and a close up of the drivers inner fender. Ugly right? Sorry I don't have any pictures of the engine itself before rebuild. I'm still looking for one. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Here's a shot of the passenger inner fender after I stripped to metal and put down some primer. [IMG][/IMG] Now just some random shots after painting and some assembly of the engine. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] I'll post another picture shortly of the more final stage. She's now fully running. She's now bored 60 over. Block was already done 30. I know 60 isn't always recommended. But it's running great. Fired up on the first try. Have seen zero issues as of yet. I've been driving her for about 5 days now. This is my first time going into such detail in the engine bay and engine. I hope you all like it. If not then by all means let me have it! I'm open to constructive criticism. Again I'll have a shot or two of the engine as she sits now here shortly. I ran out of daylight doing some final touches last night so couldn't get a picture.
Thank you guys! She's still not done yet. I sill need to get exhaust done so I can get rid of those manifolds and put my headers on. I'm also thinking of putting on some of those electric cutouts so I can hear her roar. Thoughts on that? And I need to do some touch ups on the paint where it got scratched during installation. Here's how she sits currently.
Looks good Vick. Although we could use a video of the truck running. On the exhaust cut outs I'd recommend checking your states laws about running them on a vehicle that'll be a daily driver. Especially if your state has mandatory safety inspections. The last thing you want is to go through the hassle of purchasing and installing them, then come to find out that the truck won't pass inspection with them and can't be driven with them installed. Just my $0.02. Also I'm guessing that your truck is a longbed? I noticed the apron side hood hinge stiffeners that were a requires item for truck with the factory bed topper.

I don't believe I'll have to worry about the cutouts. I know there's no inspections. If there was half the county would be screwed lol I'll check regardless just to be safe. But no she's a short bed. Good observation though! Thank you, Glad you like the work. I'll work on a video of the truck running as well. I have one of it running back in December on open header. Obviously before the rebuild I'll try to post that one just to give you guys a little something of what she was before the rebuild.
Ok here's the short video I have. Keep in mind I didn't drive the truck open header. Was just too darn curious too see how she'd sound like that. I had just gotten the headers shipped in. Couldn't wait so I popped off the manifolds real quick and slapped the shorties on.
