I have a 2005 f350 6.0 power stroke. I had a crank no start when hot issue. I bought an obd scanner with the torque app. IPR was at 85%. ICP pressure was low. I got the IPR out and bought a new screen because it was clogged. Upon putting in I broke the injector female side plastic connection.I bought the injector connector piece and installed it. After putting everything back together it starts but runs very rough, low power. The IPR was fixed. ICP,ipr and ficm are at good levels now.
IPR=14.7%-30%
Fcim sync=1.0
Fcim voltage=48.5
ICP pressure (idle)650-850psi
My fault codes are:
P0672 (glowplug)
P0674 (glowplug)
P0678 (glowplug)
Does anyone know why it would be running/idle rough?
that won't remove the air. You need to run it at higher RMP to get the air our. And after that, if you ICP is still above 23% at idle or 40% at 2500rpm, you still have issues.
You probably should change the glow plugs and harness on that side.
I'm debating on taking it for a drive because it is running so rough...I replaced all glow plugs about 6 months ago. Harness is kinda weak looking...if the harness and/or glowplugs were shot would it be running like that even at idle? I don't see how... the problem started right after the injector connection repair and the IPR repair.
After it warms up a bit, the glow plugs are not doing anything to make it run rough and by a bit, I mean above 50-60*. Compression fires the cylinders for the most part, the plugs give it a little boost. Replace the harness, its like $60 at O-Rielley's, they break easy, just removing it normally breaks it.
The injector probably isn't firing. Have you tried disconnecting the injector while its running, to see if anything changes?
I pulled #2 and #4 and a slight change in roughness but nothing drastic. Did notice when trying to start my truck glow plug clatter was reduced. In time and intensity. Is that a sign the glow plugs are working? I'm just confused...it was running fine except for when it got hot (IPR) only after taking the valve cover off to replace the injector connection it started running rough. I know I did something in between the IPR screen replacement and
the injector connection repair that is causing this.
Obvious you've got more going than just a bad glow plug or two.
Change the glow plug harness, then move to the next issue.
Verify your ICP numbers and IPR%.
Once warmed up, truck should not sound horrible. Maybe you need an oil change to 5w-40 synthetic, it helped mine be a little quieter. You could have a little stiction, the synthetic will help that.
You replaced an injector or just the electrical connection for it? You should double check your work. If you have anything to buzz test the injectors, I would do that test now. Forscan can do it as can AE or VCM. A contribution test, UN-compensated to see which injectors are failing would confirm that you have injector issues.
Air in the HPO system will make injectors clatter more, running it will clear the air.
Lets kill the thought that glow plugs clatter... they don't move, just turn hot like the heating element on your stove. Once the truck fires a few times and based on engine temperature, they turn off. if you plug the truck in at night, more than likely, they won't turn on at all.
Ok I will get a new harness and oil change. Sorry about the terminology I was referring to just the sound. So I replaced the electrical connector part. I didn't even remove the injector. I also pulled the dummy plug and standpipe and both were in good condition.
Thank you for forscan! I wasn't able to find an app that would do a buzz test
Pulling the plugs and pipes will put air in the system, you need a couple good hard runs to clear it. Forscan to buzz test and is a good code reader. It will do some other self tests as well.
If your nervous about it then run truck in driveway get it upto temp EOT 185* at say 2k and a few revs and purge air that way it will clear a lot and should somewhat smooth out if that all it needs
you removed the FICM to get to the IPR and those plugs can be a bear to get connected correctly, I would reseat them, you should hear a good click when they connect.
Well after talking to you guys I let my truck run and the idle corrected itself without me touching anything. I took it for a drive and it sounded great the rough idle would occasionally come back and then disappear. I drove it for a little over an hour everything was fine and then it stalled on me. I figured the IPR was clogged again removed it but it was not clogged at all. The IPR doesn't reach 85% when cranking. I have ficm voltage, ficm sync, IPR is fine. But not building pressure in the hpop. Code p2623 popped up. IPR circuit open. Could that be the harness? I'm stumped.
