Auxiliary Fuel Tank Question

I am dropping the trans in my 68 CS and wanted the aux tank out of the way. I never use it so I'm not going to reinstall it. Should I bother to clean it up and sell it or should I just scrap it?

Yeah. I tried a search for examples for sale but got nothing.

This truck was in storage since '89 before I got it in '14 so it has gas in there that has been sitting for at least 25 years. It's all evaporated down to a sludge that looks like burnt transmission fluid and thick as molasses. Dissolving it will be interesting.

Is it a Ford inside the frame tank, or is it an outside the frame aftermarket tank? If it is an outside the frame tank, pitch it as it is a safety hazard, unless somebody can convert it to an inside frame tank.

1967/69 F100/350 Stylesides use a different 25 gallon factory installed (inside the left frame rail) auxiliary tank and fuel filler tube than 1970/72 F100/350.

1967/69: Exposed fuel cap/filler tube located above the scallop (bumpside) line in front of the left rear wheel.

1970/72: Exposed fuel cap/filler tube located below the scallop (bumpside) line in front of the left rear wheel.

1967/72 all: Inside the bed is a shield that protects the filler tube from possible cargo damage.

Years ago a radiator shop would sometimes boil it out for you. Doubt they do that kind of thing anymore, if you can even find a radiator shop.

Inside the frame rail, as ND says.

Mine has a shield under the tank, as well.

I might be able to find something on YouTube. If I do I'll post it for general info.

Well yes it's possible to DIY, with solvent, old nuts and bolts, rocks, lengths of chain, cement mixers and I don't know what all. Big ****ing stinky mess is what it sounds like.
