Learning is great. I leave in 3 weeks for a 5 week cross country trip. Vans are a pain to work on if you are in a hurry. I have been wrenching on it since last September. My hourly rate for over time is about the same rate he charges.
I know local shops charge about 600.00 labor to remove, clean, and re-install, however, if you want or need a new unison ring, add another buck and a half.
Nothing is cheap when fixing these guys and to Irish's point, a new adventure each day when digging in yourself.

That's a good deal. My Ford tech did everything yours did except cleaning the turbo. Plus he installed a new radiator, 4" exhaust, IPR, updated HFCM, coolant and oil sensor for a grand. He's also a friend. I gave him a gift certificate to Hooters for a tip.
I might have him clean the turbo when I have him put exhaust gaskets on.
