manual cable in C4 tranny?

A while back I put a C4 transmission from a 73 into my 66 F100. I left the speedometer cable and hooked it to the C4. It seemed to hook up fine but my dial is way off. Do I need to get the cable from a C4 to get an accurate reading?

No, you just need the correct gear for the end of the cable.
