I recently purchased a 2016 expedition, the option package I choose included the trailer tow upgrade. Another expedition I drove on the lot was a base model and did not have the increased towing capacity. The ride was much better! So my question for you is what's the difference between the two?

Are they both 2wd or is yours 4wd? Have you checked your tire pressure?
What model did you purchase, the wheels and suspension may also contribute to this.
Both models 4x4, both xlt, both 18" wheels... Tire pressures all to spec, 35 psi I believe. Im thinking of replacing with a softer springs off an expedition with out the tow package.
You have a 3 ton truck that is rated to tow 4.5 tons. And you think it rides stiff? If you knowingly order a heavy duty truck, your expectations need to be realistic.
You cannot have a Town Car ride with the capability to safely carry and tow the kind of loads that your Expedition is suited for. If you do not need this capability, you might have done better to consider a crossover type SUV or a luxury car.
Is this your first big truck? I don't believe that the suspension with the trailer tow package is significantly different from the base Expy, which is rated to tow ~6000 lbs instead of ~9000.
Good luck. I do not recall what the OEM tires on the current Expedition are, but switching over to a tire built for good ride quality (like a Michelin Latitude Tour tire) might make a significant difference in the ride. It will not be different hitting huge bumps, but a high quality tire like a Michelin will filter out a lot of the "busy" harshness from expansion joints, small bumps, etc.
If you want to make changes, start with tires. I have gotten nice trade-in credit for new or almost-new OEM tires from Discount Tire when I have changed over.
Hope you can adapt to the new Expy; I would be happy to drive one.

I believe the new nivomat lls is std on all new expys, with the ccd being the only suspension option as a replacement for the old air suspension. Big trucks do ride nicely, but they do still have truck like qualities because thats what they are, but why the two expys ride so different may just be the day. With my 09 navi, the ride can differ wildly more than the cars i have driven, but most vehicles will have subtle to large ride differences day to day. When my navi is at its best, its smoother than most anything ive driven including my dads new 15 escalade, when its bad you feel most every bump either through harsh suspension whacks or the overly shakie body movement. ive learn to accept this myself as newer vehicles dnt have this and mines had 125k mi. Maybe try test driving another on the lot and try the ccd suspension. That way you can use that as a basis to what needs to be done with yours.
I have the towing package, the Nivomat shocks, and the 20 Inch Wheels, mine rides pretty good! Haven't put any load behind it yet, that will come this summer.

Also, is there a reason you took home the vehicle whose ride was not to your liking over the one that is? Did you deive the base after your purchase?

Nivomat Shocks are not standard. They are an option.
CCD is only available with the 22's, and it is not comparable to the old Air suspension, because it has zero affect on ride height, only suspension dampening.

I just looked it up, it is optional on xlts

It is comparable in the sense that its a higher end option on the vehicle which purpose is to increase ride comfort for different situations. i honestly think this should be an option on the smaller wheels as well.
