It died

Sitting idling for a few minutes started to run rough, like running out of diesel. Then it cleared up. Left the job and started again. It died and won't start.

It tries to start, like when you've run out of fuel. Would the hpop or ipr do that?

Could be possible. Definitely sounds like a fueling issue somewhere. Could even be something as simple as a filter.

I deal mostly with big diesels. I just recently got a 7.3 so I'm taking most of it from my work experience. A lot of cat engines use to use the same style injectors. And when injector pumps went it was similar to what you have going on. But I've seen dirty fuel filters do the same also.

Agree with Adam, the hpop will go gradual but not all of a sudden. I vote for uvch or cps.

I removed the fuel filter. Diesel was about halfway up the canister. Had someone turn it over. Level did not rise but it did bubble. Added five gallons of fuel, just in case screen had fallen off, that happened before. Still level did not rise. I'm thinking fuel pump?? It about 5 years old and Ive put 250-300k on it since I changed the pump. Ive heard they have two pumps, is that true. I only know of the one behind the filter canister

There is only 1 fuel pump on these trucks, but it is a two stage pump with a low side to the filter, then a high side to the injectors. Sounds like it is time for a replacement.
