Question for you guys (and gals?) that have already ordered your 2017s; have you already paid the dealer? I'm wondering at what phase of the process does money actually exchange hands? I would be waiting until later in the year for for the 2017's ordering process to mature a little and learn more about the trucks to purchase my new '17 250 but due to tax reasons I'm needing to spend the money by the end of June (end of my biz tax year). Do you pay now or when the truck is delivered?
Just joined the forum today. I've been a member of a F150 forum for years but I'm making the super duty step up this go-around and I'm stoked!
Randall, it's generally just a deposit or a handshake to order and payment is made in full when the truck lands at the dealer. I suppose a dealer would be happy to take all your money now though locking the deal for them and helping you get your tax break. I'd ask the dealer if they'd be willing to take your money. I'm betting they won't have a problem with it....
Thanks for the prompt reply. I figured like most businesses if they have a way to take a payment they certainly will. I'm not too enthusiastic about paying in full up front though as I feel I potentially lose some of my leverage as a consumer. At the same time the tax write off is important also. Tough decisions ahead I suppose. Thanks again.

Talk to your dealer and let them know when you need the purchase date to be dated by. I will not pay for mine that i just ordered until i take delivery.
RainDesert, do you recommend this as an attempt to have the truck delivered by that date, or do you mean something else? They could possibly make paperwork saying a purchase date but I think as far as taxes are concerned if the money hasn't actually moved then nothing has actually been purchased.
I certainly don't mean to direct this thread into a tax discussion so please excuse me guys. I don't have much experience with buying new trucks nor being in a financial position of needing to spend money to avoid giving it all to Uncle Sam. These good problems are new to me.

Explain your situation to the dealer as they have probably dealt with this. Next you can ask your accountant. Dates are what matter for my business as far as i know. Maybe you can write the check on your end of year and they deposit it upon delivery. I was told my truck i just ordered will be built in july.
I build homes and say i close one in december. All my sub invoices will be included in that year taxes even if i paid a sub jan1.
Your accountant will have an answer for you if you have one.

You may also be able to use your need to pay early to an advantage with the dealer.. "give me a real good deal, and you get your cash 2-3 months early - no good deal - I find a dealer who wants my money now"
