Would a sway bar help with towing my travel trailer? Probably a dumb question I'm sure. Not sure why I don't have one from the factory. Which one should I buy?
You talkin' front or rear? Most of them seem to have a front one.
I haul a camper, and an upgraded sway bar is probably the most important addition for that. I installed Hellwig Bigwig bars, much bigger than the stock front or rear. It makes the empty ride maybe a tiny bit worse and pretty much eliminates body roll.
The front one is about a 15 minute driveway job. The rear would be about 25 minutes, but the Hellwig requires you to replace the links on the rear as well, and the drivers side one is a b***h. Took me the better part of two hours to unbolt the DEF tank, slide it to the side revealing a 2" slot to work through, some swearing, etc.
Here is a comparison of stock to Hellwig, front and rear bars. Keep in mind that torsional stiffness varies as the 5th power of diameter.
I did install the Hellwig and does help holding the rear end down while on curvy roads. I have notice no difference while towing my TT. It would help with campers and 5ers. It stops the bed tilting one way or the other on sharp turns.
