Appreciate the rapid responses. That's what I was thinking, and am hence looking at the 250 seeing that I am able to convert to a bench as the shifter is on the column, not the floor. If I could move the floor shifter to the column on the 150 then I may have the option to order the 150 as I am able to remove the center console (without floor shifter) and add a center seat.
I had the exact same debate. However, in the 250, your options are the 6.2 (pulls well, but it's naturally aspirated and fuel-hungry) and the 6.7 PSD (massive up-front cost, higher maintenance, pulls like a dream but very expensive to repair when it blows up). They're also simply bigger and rougher, which may or may not bother you. Insurance is also typically higher.
I did lots of studying on moving the floor shifter... unfortunately, the floor shifter is paired with the power telescoping steering column, which is why there's no column shift option (hard to do column shift and power telescope). So, moving the shifter requires at minimum a new steering column. Starting to get very expensive at that point.
Look into the 501A. Yeah, you can't get to quite the Platinum level of toys, but who really needs massaging seats? I'm very happy with mine, and I'm definitely happy with the cost and performance of my 3.5EB over the 6.2 or PSD. Some of the 502A/Platinum toys, like LED headlights, can be added aftermarket if that's something you want to pay for.
The 501A package has keyless entry keypad (and smart key), backup assist (the trailer backup stuff along with rear camera and sensors... but NOT the auto-parallel-park crap), LED taillights. The others are all 502A or Platinum items.
You could add after your purchase LED headlights (Raptor Retrofit), power running boards (AMP, several other vendors), and probably an LED CHMSL if you really want. The rest, not so much.
It looks like I'm back to figuring out how to move the floor shifter to the column. Fortunately it looks like the floor shifter uses harness, so as long as I can convert the column to accept a new shifter I should be good to go (disconnect the harness from the floor shifter, plug in the harness for the new column shifter. In looking at columns for the F150, Column Shifter vs Column of trucks with floor shifter, so I'd likely need to order the items in the box (1) plus the shifter (10, 11) Transceiver 4 and bolt 2. ~$236 plus shipping, then a center seat (~200-300), plus trim pieces to do what I want to do. Estimation ~500-700.
So the question begs to ask, has anyone changed out their steering column? Its either that or an F250 Platinum, and I really don't need the extra capability of the F250.
I wouldnt think you would need to swap the entire column. If you remove the plastic trim aound it, the mounting point for the shift lever is likey still there. Find a wrecked truck and see if you can disasemble that area. Also check online for interior schematics.
I spent a fair amount of time chasing this, and just couldn't make it work out economically. The columns are different - the power tilt/telescope column isn't available with a column shift - so you're basically rebuilding everything from the column out. You might be able to re-use the wheel, but I couldn't determine that with clarity. And then you have to hope there are no computer programming differences between the two configurations.
If you can buy it, sit it in the driveway, and wrench on it for awhile, I'm certain you can get there. But I don't think it will be fast.
I had not thought about programming due to the floor vs column, that could really snag what I want to do...
GRR - now I need to decide weather I go with the 2017 F250 which I can get a bench, or suffer and have to take two vehicles when we have more than 5 people. I currently have 2 kids, so 4 is most common, but 6 is more of the norm than 5... Friends/family...

Perhaps it's wrong to suggest on a truck site... Wouldn't an SUV with a trailer be acceptable?
You're having the same debate that I did a few months ago. I'd didn't need all the higher level trim stuff, but liked the bucket seats and a few other things standard with the Lariat 502A package. The Home CEO mandated six seat belts for kids and family, so I'm driving a 501a package now. No regrets thus far. Haven't used the center front seat yet, but I'm glad I have the options. Don't really "need" the other stuff. Honestly, the 501a is a very nicely appointed package.
