Long story short I had EGR cooler & oil cooler replaced on Friday.
Engine light goes on & it read code p0264 after I left mechanic but couldn't take it back since they closed & gone for weekend. They test drove it for 2 minutes but didnt mention rough idle and truck still blowing white smoke.
Owner told me to drive it about 50+ miles and smoke will go away.
The truck idles really rough and when I step on gas it has no power along with the truck rough idle. Came home & next morning I found a small amount of oil on passenger side.
Today I took truck to market which is 1 mile away & Low Oil Pressure light appeared. I turn it around and come home. Park the truck & the truck has a puddle of oil dripping fast from the truck.
I checked the coolant in Degas bottle and it's green? I was always told the coolant has to be gold from either Mortorcraft Gold or Zerex G05..
Is it ok for them to use green coolant? I remember using Zerex to top of but that was still a little thick even with water. This green coolant is watery.
Am I missing something here?
I'm taking video, pictures & making notes of everything.. I'm taking the truck back on Monday morning and I'm hoping they fix it to make it all right. Its horrible the BS they have done and feel this might get nasty. Meanwhile, I'm out $3200 with truck that I can't drive.
They even did an oil change on my truck & charged me for it even though they never contacted me that they would do it. So because of their oil change that I NEVER authorized I have oil pouring out from under the truck.
Can you tell where the oil is coming from? I'm guessing a seal wasn't seated properly when the oil cooler was changed.
Did you draw some of the coolant out of the degas bottle? Sometimes it looks green in there depending on coloration of bottle over time. Green is not good.
The coolant is green... I spoke to one of the mechanics that works at the shop and he told me they use regular coolant and never had an issue
As far as I know there are only one or two green coolants that have the corrosion inhibitor package necessary for the 6.0. If it were me I'd get that stuff out, flush several times with distilled water, maybe a Restore flush, several more times with distilled, and then use the Ford Gold Coolant or Zerex G-05. Don't forget to change your coolant filter you added because it is full of green now. And them saying "We've never had a problem" doesn't mean much considering it seems like they've effed up your truck. And the coolant problems may take some time to show up.
Some recommend using ELC coolant and say the Ford Gold is junk. I am not one of them, but to each their own.
Do you think I should tell them anything about using the regular antifreeze???
I would and then ask if they filled the water portion using the hose or distilled water? Tap/hose water is full of minerals, why it turns brown and rusty. Use distilled only!
P0264 is injector low code.... meaning your injector is bad. Could be the harness isn't plugged in well. Have a buzz test for that injector, see if it's electrically connected.
they replaced the oil cooler...were they supposed to re-use your old oil?
I'd be more concerned with the oil cooler cover leaking, green coolant in the truck and the injector they possibly killed... why it's running rough and blowing white smoke.
The coolant issue can be easily corrected with a simple water flush. The issue would be a long term problem and honestly, you've got much bigger issues to deal with.
My advice from your first post would be this, as long as you didn't pay cash.
Stop payment on the check if you went that route.
If you used a credit card, call the credit card NOW and tell them you will be disputing the charges as soon as you can.
There is nothing that will get the attention of a vendor quicker than having a charge back or the dough stuck in limbo.
As mentioned earlier, you might need some legal recourse here. It's possible even with the glowing reviews from your mechanic friend you are dealing with a "Diesels R Us" shop that is less than well versed in the 6.0
The fact that they use green coolant tells me they either don't know or don't care what coolant this engine calls for, and if the oil cooler is leaking already, if that is where the leak is coming from, the odds are they sourced a Dorman and the gasket has given up the ghost.
I agree with what's been posted here so-far. Hopefully it was possible to stop payment and maintain your leverage. Next comes the decision are you going to give them a chance to fix it? If they convince you they did a rush job and hosed it up and are willing to make it right, I might still give them a shot - even though they don't know the issues with silicate based coolants in a diesel truck with an EGR cooler. Just going back in for the oil leak could get expensive at another shop and tie up more money. I'd insist the green coolant gets flushed and low silicate ELC or silicate free EC1 rated coolant be installed. Hopefully the smoke and rough running is just an unplugged injector or damaged harness. I'd also understand if you decide not to let these goobers work on your truck again but honestly, for me it would depend on how the first meeting goes. If it goes badly the next communication from me would be from an attorney.
