Hi,
I just replaced the power steering gear box on my truck. When I have the wheel turned all the way in either direction it starts squeezing/whining. The pump has new fluid and is filled to the right level, does any know why this is happening?
Thanks
It is. Whats happening is the pump is trying to apply pressure but it cant as the steering stops are stopping it, thus the pump loads up and groans. Its the same as if you had air in the line or low fluid level the pump is loading up so it groans and whines.
1988 F250 IDI. I am not My steering is whining and turning half way. I have replaced the both, the pump and geear about 2 years ago. It worked fine for about six months. After that it was the same as before I changed it. It doesn't do it when I am driving. Any suggestions before I change it again.

Other than hijacking greenflareside's thread, you are experiencing typical Ford C2 style pump noise.
Some people say it quiets right down if you add a half tube of limited slip additive.
(You are using the proper ATF in b your steering pump, right?)
Type F is called for, but Mercon V has superceded.
