I bought installed the tugger was very happy. I only did the pan install. Will do the pump parts when I do a convert later.
I think dropping the pan and fuild if not done is worth doing even if not doing a kit if unknown with any truck. Just to clean the magnet and see what you have for junk in there. IE. condition of trans. Don't think your ever going to go wrong with a few qts of fluid and maint.
You can do many searches on what are good upgrades to do with the trans. The center support seams to be one along with the snap ring. That also came in the tugger kit. I plan in replacing the front pump as well when I swap the convertor. Pretty much look at what Ford did to the HD unit and that is the things to look at.
Well I've found what I was looking far as it comes to upgrades I believe. Now where the heck do I find a good billet torque converter that won't cost as much as a new engine!? Ive looked at several sites now and they're incredibly expensive...

Precision of New Hampton seems to have a good track record for turning out reasonably priced, well built billet cover multi disc units. Some members here have used their converters and I haven't heard any negative feedback. You can check here Distributors Precision of New Hampton, Inc. for your local distributor and pricing. I believe they have an ebay store, also. IIRC, you can get one for the $500-$600 range.

Anybody running a Suncoast or ATS torque converter?
I've not read the best reviews for ATS standing behind their product, but my buddy is running one in his Dmax and its holding up well to compounds. Cant seem to find much on Suncoast though...

There are reasons (not going into them) they have the nick name of Suntoast...my place of work shoved one into one of there work vans (Chevy) and it was toasted with in a few months of use, of course when we run our deliveries we run them pretty hard, we literally will turn and burn with maybe a total of 1 hour total down time for the vehicles to cool down....that van is since gone thankfully, and they learned a lesson...as for the Ford van...217K+ on it and all thats been done so far is a hub bearing replacement....hehe
I was thinking they might be an option vs Precision Industries that BTS uses. Further looking shows both ATS and Suncoast require a core, PI doesn't. I don't have a core to send in, that alone is $250-300.
I'd read that PI had some bonding issues in the '04 era. Sounds like they've fixed that. They also have more holding area (150 sq in vs the early version of 115).
Also seem on other forums, ppl recommending Racer X or RevMax as good ones also. There fewer reviews on them though...
My truck normally just gets me to the hardware store and back but twice a year helps me move a 20,000 lbs boat from dry storage to the launch ramp.
My transmission is going to a local transmission shop to be rebuilt. It already has a John Wood valve body that John installed several years ago.
The owner of the local transmission shop showed me a Transgo box that he said gets installed with his rebuild. He also suggested a low stall triple disc torque converter.
Are there any other upgrades to the transmission internals (clutches, plates, and whatever else goes into a transmission) that I should suggest?
You shouldn’t need a Transgo VB kit if already running the Woods VB. I would actually be concerned about trying to implement that into an already modified VB.
Low stall triple disk converters are a common upgrade.
