Upgrading Torque Converter ??
, just wanted to start by Thanking Everyone who has contributed to the INVALUABLE wealth of Knowledge this site holds
especially for all the young, budding Ford Lovers such as myself!! I could literally spend hours reading all there is here!
I am new to mechanic work in general, but I guess my theory is, doin it yourself and learning in the process sure beats
the crap outta paying a crap load for someone else to do it and being none the wiser (especially if they do a shoddy job)... so at this point, I am pretty much willing to take on any job... :-P
I just got finished rebuilding my ole C6, installed a TransGo shift Kit, all new clutches, steels and the Kevlar Band, and boy, let me tell you, that was quite an Experience.
I NEVER would have got it done without the Haynes Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul Book. Ran into a bit of trouble dropping it tho, one of the converter to flywheel bolts was soo stripped, it was beggin me to grind it off, with a Dremel, lol. SO, since I couldnt remove the T/C, I just pulled the Tranny and thought I could re-install with the T/C still bolted on... WRONG!. Well, finally got the T/C off and it needs to be replaced anyways, figures :-P
Finally, the question, lol :
My truck is an '82 F-150 2WD 2.75 open 9" Diff.(isnt it really 1wd??) , and my c6 bolts up to a pretty much stock 351W, with Holley 600 and Edelbrock Performer Intake... I have a B&M tranny Temp gauge and sender and am planning on getting the B&M Super Cooler.... now.... for better off the line performance (I dont really plan on towing anything), do you think I could go with a LITTLE higher stall converter, say about 1900ish in conjunction with the cooler, or am I better off going stock???
Thank You to all in Advance
