Was sitting in a parking lot today and I noticed my brake light was on. Pulled the handle, nothing. Slowly dimmed off and stayed off.
I shifted the truck into reverse, rolled back, stepped on brakes, let off, repressed, let off, repressed. Brake light popped back on. I noticed about a week ago that I had little to no power brakes in reverse, but figured that to be normal. I'm thinking that's not normal now.
Seems to brake fine once you build some revs up though.
Another thing I noticed which may be irrelevant is my climate control selection doesn't really work. When I put it on max AC, full blast, it blows out the defrost. Occasionally it'll blow out vents but not often. Vacuum related?
Yes, the climate controls and the brake booster work off vacuum, so I would say a new vacuum pump will fix both issues. And me personally, I would go OEM.
As stated, the AC/heater will default to defrost position with a faulty vacuum pump, regardless of where the control is positioned. The brake peddle will usually get very hard to push down, and stopping power is diminished, when the pump goes south.
Appears Ebay has them for about a hundred bucks. Only problem is I'm at my uncles in Oregon and I'm not so sure he has a pulley puller but I'll ask him when I see him tomorrow. I reckon a local parts store might be able to help me out with that.
