Hi everyone. Hope y'all can help. I have a 83 150 with the inline 6. Truck wouldn't start so i replaced the cables. Next morning truck started with no problem. I park the truck and hour later it won't start. Cables check, battery check. Replaced starter selenoid still nothing, replaced ignition module still nothing. Wasn't getting power to starter so I replaced the starter.
New started installed and the truck still won't do anything. The lights come on but nothing else will happen except when I turn the key the rpms jump but won't do anything else.
Need a little more information.
We know it is a 83 F150 with a 300 but what trany does it have?
Now you say "does not start" but you did things pointing to it not turning over or cranking. When you turn the key does the motor turn over and not start OR not turn over? If not turning over what happens any lights or noise?
Than we can point you where to look next. Dave ----
Not sure about the tranny. When I turn the key nothing Happens except the rpm gauge jumping. When you turn the lights on they work. The brake light on dash comes on. I'm guessing cause the parking brake is engaged. No clicking noise or anything.
OK, is it an automatic or standard. If automatic, you may have a bad neutral switch on it. Are you sure the solenoid is wired properly. My main concern is the wire that pushes on to it on the right side when you are looking at it from the pass side. That leads to the ignition key and allows power to pass to the starter.
Ignition switch / alignment issue, or possibly the starter relay is stuck. Try removing the small wire terminal from the relay while it's happening. If the starter continues to run, then the relay is suspect. If the starter disengages, then I'd be looking at the ignition switch and how it's actuated by the key.

Thanks everyone for the help. It's running now. Replaced starter selenoid then the starter. Installed the new starter and the truck ran however the new starter was staying engaged. Took of the new starter put old starter back on cleaned the grounds and truck fired right up. Not to mention it was the 3rd new starter selenoid I put on it. Makes for a huge pain for a rookie mechanic trying to diagnose when new parts don't work. Knock on wood it stays runnin as this is my daily driver for the moment. Thanks again everyone
