84 F250 351W I'm having some cooling issues and would like to get rid of the upper radiator hose that has the big arch in it( to clear the air pump). I have no air pump and thought someone might know of a replacement hose that is more level.
Well I can tell you that upper hose is not the issue.
It worked keeping the motor cool when new so why would it not now? Some questions for you. Why do you say "cooling issues"? Using the stock temp gauge? Did this start all of a sudden and if so what was done just before that? Motor ever rebuilt where the block was board? How old is the radiator & water pump? What temp Tstat is it now? Do you have a 50/50 mix for cooling? You running the stock fan & shroud? Stock fan a clutch type or? When motor is up to temp motor off feel across the radiator top to bottom and side to side to see if it fells the same temp in all areas. If not you have a bad radiator. Bottom hose does it have the spring inside it? If you turn on the heater does the temp come down? Did the cooling system have mud for water and you flushed it clean and it still runs hot? Dave ----
Old engine all add ons are new, 192 T-stat, 50/50 distilled, stock fan and clutch. Rad is being rodded. I suspect gauge or something electric. Gauge will be on R( in normal) 1/2 day then up to A for rest of day. Sometimes it starts at the A and after stopping for an hour down to R and stays there, next day same thing, sometimes it stays at the R all day then next day at the A all day. always these 2 spots. Gauge will move back and forth from one side of R to other and from one side of A to other side continuously. But I want to get rid of the rollercoster hose on top as it holds air being the tallest point in the cooling system and no way to bleed it.
I wonder if the gauge "hunting" could be a bad IVR? When ever having issues with "ify" stock gauges it is best to install after market mechanical gauges. The other thing for a quick check is a hand held IR gun for checking temps. This way you know just want the temp is.
As for the hose I cant help on a replacement but that "air trapped" is not a big deal as it is on the pressure side of the pump/system. Many a stock motor of other makes do the same even with out A/C. My AMC v8 motors are all like that and never an issue with temps. Unless the system has other issues.
Maybe someone has done just what you want and will post it up. Good luck Dave ----
What brand tstat are you using?
If it is a Stant,....that is probably your problem.
Go get a stock Ford or a Mr Gasket pill type (vs spring type) and install.
I have run into the same problem with Stant tstat"s.
Lots of bad reports on them, it's a shame,....they used to be good.....
Good luck!!!
I wouldn't use a Mr Gasket anything as I've seen nothing but junk from them in the last several years. Perhaps their thermostats aren't junk, but I wouldn't even think of chancing it with my engine.

I have this same question in regards to my truck, although I have no cooling issues. I think it just looks weird.
Put a mechanical aftermarket gauge on it, to see what the temp actually is. My 84 would always be on the high side of normal on the factory gauge, but the aftermarket showed about 185.
