I hope you guys can put me on the right track....here's the problem:
While turning very slow and sharp on the farm, I heard a pop under the hood. I then lost power steering and brakes. I saw power steering fluid spurting in the left tire well behind the tire. Look under hood and saw fluid coming from a fitting on the side of the power steering pump. I have attached a photo....one photo with nothing and then other with a screw driver tip on the fitting.
It appears that the the pressure fitting blew out the side when I turned sharp. It has a nut from which it came (compression of some sort?). I can push the nipple of the fitting back into the nut but I guess the pressure is gone. Before I screw something up, can you guys tell me what you think? Stand by for the photos
Thanks guys for the quick response. You guys are fast. Had the answer before I had the pictures up. It's dark now..... what's the other end of the connect to? Easy to get to?
I think I have the right part number from searching old thread on this site. If anyone has a minute and can verify before I order one, that would be great.
1C3Z 3A717 AA.
I assume all I need to do is hook it up and fill with fluid and away I go, right? Any suggestions on fluid, etc.
Sorry, I can't validate the Part number, but it's a common part so you should be good. U might go to Ford .com and check for a schematic and you should find the latest part#. Reinstall, refill with Mercon V, start 'er up, work the air out of the system by turning the wheel back and forth a few times, Checking for leaks the whole time and you will be good. Also be aware that that's probably the high pressure side so, protect yourself....
If you are in a hurry, call the local ford dealer. They are more expensive, but close. If you have time, go to RockAuto.com. They are cheaper, but can ship overnight to you.
I had one blow in the parking lot. First I dialed Ford, then I dialed my wife to bring the part. It took me longer to break out the tools, clean the mess, wait for the wife to show, and put away the tools than it did to fix the broken hose. Total time from splash-down to launch - two hours.
Thanks guys for all the post. I plan to order tonight if they can it here by weekend. If not, picking up at ford tomorrow. I will, as always, post a follow-up and let y'all know how it came out.
