Couple Questions about Pulling a FE

Hello there. I have a '73 F250 Camper Special and I'm 90% complete with the 390 I've been building to replace the 360, mated to a C6, that is currently in my truck.

I pretty much figure the hood has to come off, but how much disassembly of the front end to pull the motor and tranny out as a unit? Does the radiator support have to come out?

Tips on cleaning up the engine bay? Some will probably hate to read this, but I am looking to clean up a bit and getting rid of the extra wiring for the second battery- and could use some practical experience with electric fans. I've read the Mark VIII fan from the late 90's seems to be a decent swap.

I pulled my 390 and c6 combo out of my '76. I took all the pumps and stuff off the front of the engine, the radiator, took the drive shaft out, and the 2 crossmembers under trans. I left exhaust manifolds on the block, and just disconnected them at the flange. It cleared the core support, but it was close. The hood was the only body panel I took off.

Honestly I'd probably just pull the front clip. It's a lot easier in the long run if you're pulling them both together.

I always just pull the front clip just a few bolts and a body gets it completely out of the way. Pull the transfer case shift lever and you should be set. You can either pull the engine towers with the engine or leave them on the frame. It doesn't make too much effort to maneuver around them.

Here is a helpful message from another thread ...

14 bolts and the complete front clip comes right off. Not counting the 4 for the hood. Speaking of pulling the hood, 1st sharpie mark around the hood hinge positions, it will make for a way easier time for realignment.

Come here for step by step where the bolts on the front clip are and some other eng pulling tips.
