window falls down ...help

so i ended up replacing my window regulator shafts with 1/4 longer ones from mid fiftys. now the window falls down and i can actually pull it up or down without having to use the crank. i played around with it all day and could not get it to NOT FALL ...i even took apart my spare parts truck to make sure it was back together correctly...long story short i ended up putting the original back in and now it works fine. anyone else had any experience with the longer shafts ? just looking at the old and new the new ones were a little wider where the spring hits it .....any advice appreciated

Inside the window regulator there's a small spring with two tangs on it
If this isn't in fitted correctly or if the tangs are broken off this will happen
Listed as inner repair spring in the Mid Fifty Catalogue
