Decided I might like to try using the CAT Scale Weigh My Truck App. As I am setting up my account I get a note pointing out that it is only available for Standard weighing. If a Split-axle or Double weigh is required, please use the CAT Scale intercom.
I have figured out that a Split-axle (or spread axle) in this context means the trailer (of a tractor trailer combo) with axles that are spread far apart in order to increase the load capacity of the trailer.
OK, doesn't pertain to my little truck and travel trailer.
I can't find anything concerning double weigh. Is that referring to those trucks (UPS comes to mind) pulling two trailers behind them?
If so, would that also apply to me if I attached a boat with trailer to the back of my TT?
Never mind. I just watched a few videos put out by the CAT company and determined that there really isn't much (if any) benefit for a casual user like me.
Easier to just push the button then go inside.
I will go inside first and explain to the desk person that I'm a private party and will be getting 3 weight tickets, two on the same pass about 1 minute apart (with WD and without WD) then a 3rd pass 5 minutes later (no trailer). This has worked out well, I did have to hang half way out my window and stretch to reach the call button though!
Pay close attention to the 3 separate scale pads on the scale table, be sure to get your front/rear/TT axles on the correct pads, sounds simple but those scales are setup for slightly bigger trucks than ours.

For sure go inside first and explain what you are doing. I just recently went to the scales and ran into issues. I ran the TT over first and a few hours later when I ran my X across it the Weighmaster was like " I am sorry sir but I dont see your truck on the camera" I laughed and said please weigh what you cant see. When I went inside we laughed about it. Bring a broom stick with you to reach the button. I had to get out of the truck to get to the button and i am not sure if i was weighed with the truck. Oh yea be sure to shut the truck engine off I had trouble hearing the weighmaster thru the speaker.
And it doesn't help when they have never weighed a truck trailer combo before either!
I felt they they thought I was cuckoo and the lady at the register clearly wanted to me when I had to explain it to her supervisor. They ended up coming g out and helping us since it was our first time too.
That's the nice thing for me, Oregon DOT has a couple of scales near where I live so whenever I need to verify my weights I can run over there and do it free and play around to get all my data I need. On US 101 between Warrenton and Gerabaldi is one and on US 30 just west of Rainier. They leave the scales set up and then lock up the scale house. They don't man them very much but helps the loggers and gravel trucks stay legal.
