All of you have been so helpful in the past, I thought I might impose upon you again for a little help.
I have put my 1956 C600 on a 2003 E350 chassis. Moving along swimmingly. I purchased a Borgeson Saginaw steering pump(v groove pulley) to go on my 1971 Ford Torino 302 sbf engine. Bolted on quite nicely, but now I need a two groove crankshaft pulley to power the pump.
The original crank pulley has the 4 mounting holes and the large diameter center hole. It measures almost 7 inches across. I have looked everywhere on the internet, called most of the suppliers and manufacturers and can only find a double groove pulley with a width of 5.5 inches, which means an underdrive. Does anyone have any idea where I can find the appropriate sized 2 groove v-belt pulley, or suggest a feasible alternative?
An addendum to my initial inquiry:
The original single groove Crank pulley has the Ford part # D0OE-6312-A. The interchange part # for a double groove pulley is D0OE-6312-B, but the pulley is almost 8" wide.
Does this mean it will overdrive? Does it matter? Will it work? There are plenty of these on ebay for a reasonable price.
An addendum to my initial inquiry:
The original single groove Crank pulley has the Ford ID Engineering # D0OE-6312-A.
The interchange ID Engineering # for a double groove pulley is D0OE-6312-B, but the pulley is almost 8" wide.
Your info is flawed, no part numbers are marked on parts since 1956.
Ford replaced the pulley marked with ID Engineering # D0OE-6312-A with Ford part number: DOZZ-6A312-A which is a Triple Sheave Pulley.
Pulley marked with ID Engineering # D0OE-6312-B is Ford part # D0OZ-6A312-E Double Sheave Pulley.
Post 4: Marked with ID Engineering number: D0AE-6312-C = Ford part number D0OZ-6A312-B .. Triple Sheave Pulley, has different applications than D0ZZ-6A312-A Triple Sheave Pulley.
Thanks Chilly *****, but I can't use a triple sheave.
I knew Bill would come through, but my single pulley is clearly marked with the part # and a Ford logo. Maybe it's not original to the 1971 302, but it's on there. Thanks for the proper number, Bill.
I spoke with the March pulley technical expert, and he had no solution, since the water pump pulley is also 6 1/2 ". His solution was to change all the pulleys, but that isn't happening. He also told me it is better to overdrive than to underdrive, so I am going to go with the 8" crank double sheave pulley.
Seems to be plenty of those on ebay for a reasonable price.
Will: The single sheave pulley is 6.56". It looks like I have to experiment. It's cheaper to buy the double sheave for under $50.00 than buy all billet pulleys for $300.00.
Well, now I am screwed. As Will suggested the double sheave is too big to fit on the crank because of the nose on the water pump. To add insult to injury, I went to the Monroe swap meet Sunday, and there were hundreds of crank pulleys that I could have purchased for $10.00 or under. I spent almost $50.00 for the same pulley.
I need to find a short water pump and that will solve the problem, I hope. Is there a number for a short one that will fit a 1972 Ford Torino small block(302) engine? I also need a pulley that will fit.
Maybe the number dummy can scrounge up a PART NUMBER for me. Bill always comes through!!
Thanks, Mark.
