AOD extension housing help needed

So I believe I made a mistake, I recently got an engine and trans from a guy who said they came out of a 1986 mustang. I am getting ready to swap it into my truck but there is an issue. My tailshaft extension housing on the truck measures around 10 1/2". The tailshaft housing I got from the guy measures about 11 1/2. What are my options? are the output shafts the same length on both? do I just swap extension housings? do I need to have the driveshaft cut down 1 inch? do I just run a short boot seal? my truck is a 1984 f150. Thanks

take it to a driveshaft shop....they will replace one end of the shaft to match up.
