AOD Differnences

Will an AOD from a 87 4X4 fit in a 84 2x4? Is this a simple swap, or will I have to pull the rear housing to get it to bolt in due to the lack or transfer case? Don't want issues just a simple in and out and if pulling the rear housing is easy then thats okay to. No time to dink around with it!

Thanks for the info!!!

I may be remebering wrong, but I believe the 4x4 is a short shaft and the 2wd is a long shaft AOD, referring to the length of the output shaft, also the rear housing would be incompatible.

Thats what I thought I had read somewhere else as well. I don't want to mess with that kind of thing. I jsut want to swap it in and out if I am going that route. Thanks for the heads up Archion! The hunt continues!

The AOD has such a poor reputation, it may be hard to find a used one worth swapping in.

If you dont have time to dink around find one that will bolt right in. A two wheel drive one.
