Hello All,
I'm in the market for a new F150 but I'm not in a hurry. Was wondering what will be new to the lineup in the next 3 years? Is it a good idea to wait a year or two for that next great feature or should I pull the trigger now?
Thoughts?
A Diesel engine is right around the corner, but that's not a concern if you want the EB. Ford is making start/stop basic starting in 2017 on the 3.5EB, so if you don't want that feature, then now is the time to buy
The 3.5 EcoBoost is an all newly engineered powerplant for 2017. Ten speed automatic transmissions are also slated for 2017. Like stated above, a 3 liter turbo diesel looks like a definite maybe. Other than those major things, probably just minor option, trim and color changes.
If you don't like being a beta tester, now is the time to buy. If you like the latest and greatest, wait for the 2017s.

The 10 speed transmission is in itself worth the wait. I currently have a hemi with the 8 speed and it makes a big difference in how smoothly the shifts are. It always seems to be in the right rpm band. I will probably buy a 2018 ecoboost with the new transmission.
It sounds like an interesting gearbox. As I understand, it willl have ten available speeds but won't go though all of them as it shifts up and down. The gears that the TCM selects will be based on several factors such as speed, load, trailer connection etc.
The new transmission sounds interesting as well as the start stop technology. Hopefully gas prices stay low so I can drive my Super Duty till the 18's come out.
I'm really excited about the 10-speed. I remember going from the 4-speed to the current 6-speed and how big of an improvement that was for towing particularly.
On that 4-speed, there were only certain speeds that my truck was "comfortable" pulling up hills, and those always seemed either too fast or too slow. Thank goodness those days are behind us!
Thanks all for the info.
Usually all I find when I google 2017 f150 is articles about the raptor, which I'm not interested in.
But I did stumble upon an article talking about development of a 5.0 EB v8 motor. Would that ever be considered for a non Raptor f150? Seems like over kill but I'm sure there'd be a market for it if it was an option in the future.
Also, has there been any rumors of a reworked suspension for the F150? I see a lot of comments about how ford could do better than the leaf spring suspension.
Ford hasn't been advertising the non-raptor 2017 F150 yet, I expect details on that to start to trickle out over the summer and early fall.
I haven't seen anything more than speculation about the 5.0L EB engine, and honestly, I don't think it's very realistic, but hey, who knows.
I also haven't heard anything about a major suspension change.
After owing the 3.5 EB I'm not really interested in a V8 EcoBoost. I'm actually thinking the 2.7 EB with a 10 speed will be a nice setup for me. We sold our farm and heavy trailers, so the most I tow is my car & car trailer which weighs less than 7,000 lbs or the boat which weighs less than 5,000lbs. In the future if I need to haul anything heavy, I'll just my flatbed trailer.
I've found boats to be easier to tow than travel trailers anyway because they push less wind.
Agree that 2.7EB and the 10-speed will be a fascinating combination.

Does That shift dial drive you crazy ?
My brother just bought one and he says he hates it
He said he just can't get use to it:
Depending on the terrain the 10 speed is gonna do a lot of shifting IMO
